MTS/BWW PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mims takes honor with big game

Betsy Layne quarterback Chase Mims passed for 344 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 91 yards and two scores in his team’s road win at Floyd Central.

The senior has now passed for 2,292 yards and 26 touchdowns while rushing for 10 scores this season.

His effort has earned him the Mountain top sports/Buffalo Wild Wings Player of the Week honors.

Here is this week’s special honorable mention:

Paintsville quarterback Frederick James passed for 177 yards and four touchdowns in the Tigers road win over Pike County Central.

Johnson Central running back Zack McCoart ran for 196 yards and three touchdowns in the Golden Eagles win over Belfry.

Phelps’ defensive unit picked off six passes, including three by Tyler Mitchem. Corey Turnmire, Cainan Land and Bryson Locklear had one each.

Letcher Central quarterback Carson Adams ran 25 times for 245 yards and one touchdown, and he passed for 148 yards.

Belfry running back Isaac Dixon finished with 110 yards and one rushing touchdown and hauled in an 84-yard TD pass.

East Ridge quarterback Dylan Burdine passed for 263 yards and three touchdowns. Receiver

Martin County running back Kolby Sparks ran for 212 yards and three touchdowns.

Magoffin County quarterback Lucas Litteral passed for 151 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 73 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran in a two-point conversion.

Mingo Central running back Norman Kennedy finished with 151 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Shelby Valley quarterback Russ Osborne passed for 193 yards and one touchdown.

Chapmanville running back Kohl Farmer ran for 201 yards and two touchdowns on 32 rushing attempts. 

East Ridge receiver Isaiah Adkins had seven catches for 120 yards and two scores.

Man quarterback Israel Canterbury passed for 185 yards and three touchdowns.

Tug Valley running back Tanner Kirk rushed 40 times for 232 yards and a touchdown.

Man running back Justin Grimmett ran for 108 yards and one score. He also had three catches for 83 yards and two touchdowns.

East Ridge running back Gabe Mullins carried 27 times for 126 yards and two scores. 

Tug Valley quarterback Elijah Fluty passed for 118 yards and two scores.

Shelby Valley running back Jayden Newsome totaled 122 yards on 20 carries and one touchdown.
