15TH REGION ALL ‘A’ ROUNDUP: Paintsville, Phelps reach semifinals

PIKEVILLE – Paintsville and Phelps have punched their tickets to the boys’ 15th Region All “A” Classic tournament semifinals following wins on Wednesday night.

The Tigers advanced with a 64-46 win over Betsy Layne while the Hornets rolled past Jenkins, 89-58.

Colby Fugate was an unstoppable force for Paintsville, lead the way with a game-high 33 points. He also had seven rebounds. Braxton Tharp followed with 12 while Nick Keeton added nine points and eight boards.

Chase Mims paced the Bobcats, who played without leading scorer Jordan Frazier, sideline with an injury, with 22 points and Brady Robinson tossed in 10. Lukas Manns added nine and 12 rebounds.

Jason Casey fired in 16 points and Trey Francis added 12 to lead a balanced attack for the Hornets in their victory. Seth Mayhorn and Cameron Johnson followed with nine each.

Jenkins’ Payton Rose led all scorers with 24 points. Austin Johnson and Jeremy Potter chipped in nine apiece.

PIKEVILLE – Paintsville’s Braxton Tharp hit a pair of free throws with 3.9 seconds remaining to help the Tigers escape upset-minded East Ridge, 69-65, in the opening round of the 15th Region All “A” Classic played Tuesday night.

Tharp finished with a game-high 25 points to lead four Tigers in double figures. Nick Keeton finished with 19 while Baron Ratliff tallied 11 and Colby Fugate tossed in 10.

East Ridge was led by Jon Mills’ 23 points. Braxton Stanley followed with 14 and Eli Rose tossed in 12.
