15TH REGION TOURNAMENT: Pikeville, Martin County reach semifinals

Four-time defending 15th region girls champion Pikeville and Martin County punched their tickets to the semifinals following opening round wins at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Monday night.

Trinity Rowe scored 14 points and Kristen Whited followed with 11 as the Lady Panthers cruised past Belfry, 72-32. Leighan Jackson added nine.

The Lady Pirates were led by Karlea Stanley’s 13 points and Jaaliyah Warren added 10.

In the tournament opener, Laken Williams poured in a game-high 32 points as the Lady Cardinals turned back Floyd Central, 75-69. Katie Marcum chipped in 14.

Kennedy Harvell paced the Lady Jaguars with 25 points and Madilyn Meade finished with 17.

Pikeville and Martin County will meet in the semifinals on Friday night.
