Pike Central’s Cameron Shearer doubled into leftfield to score Peyton Compton to tie the game in the seventh inning and the Hawks added three runs in the eighth and then held off Belfry to score a 5-4 win in the 60th District championship game played at Central Field on Wednesday night.
Shearer’s sacrifice fly in the eighth capped a three-run inning. Peyton Compton and Patrick Mandrell added RBI hits.
The Pirates fought back in the bottom of the frame, scoring twice to close to within one run. With the bases loaded, relief pitcher Izaac Blankenship picked off the runner at second to end the game.
Steven Banks hit a solo home run for Belfry and Isaac Stanley walked twice and added a pair of RBIs.

The Belfry Lady Pirates snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, scoring four runs in the top of the seventh inning to shock Pike Central, 4-2, in the championship game played at the Hawks Nest on Wednesday night.
The Lady Hawks took a 2-0 lead to the seventh. Belfry’s Natalie Fite lined a double with the bases loaded to give the Lady Pirates a 3-2 lead. Winning pitcher followed with an RBI single to push the lead to two runs.
Losing pitcher Chloe Hannah struck out 11 batters in the loss. She drove in one run on a sacrifice fly scoring Abby Hess.
Hannah May had scored earlier in the game on an error by the catcher.
Sydney Stafford added three hits for Belfry and scored once while Makaylin Meade had two singles and scored. Myra Bevins singled and scored.
