60TH DISTRICT TOURNAMENT: Phelps claims second straight crown

GOODY – Phelps standout Trey Francis scored 21 of his game-high 27 points in the final quarter, including 16 of 19 from the free throw line, to lift the Hornets to a 66-57 victory over Belfry in the boys’ 60th District Tournament championship game played on Thursday night.

The Hornets improved to 21-10 overall and earned the number one seed in next week’s 15th Region Tournament in Pikeville. Belfry, which dropped to 10-18, will enter the regional as a number two seed.

Francis also grabbed 13 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Dominick Francis followed with 16 points and Cameron Sanson chipped in 10.

Sal Dean paced the Pirates with 18 points while Brett Coleman and Caleb Spears followed with 11 each.
