ALL ‘A’ CLASSIC: Valley, Phelps in title game tonight

PIKEVILLE – Shelby Valley and Phelps will clash at the Appalachian Wireless Arena tonight to decide the 15th Region girls’ All “A” Classic championship.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Lady Cats, now 10-5, knocked off Pikeville, 58-48, while the Lady Hornets (11-5) bounced Betsy Layne, 57-49.

Alyssa Elswick led three Valley players in double figure scoring with a game-high 16 points. Alyssa Newsom followed with 12 and Zoee Johnson tallied 10.

Alexia Wilkerson and Trinity Rowe paced the Lady Panthers (12-4) with 11 points each and Kirsten Cole-Williamson tossed in nine.

Meanwhile, Kylie Hall had a big day for the Lady Hornets, scoring 21 points and grabbing 14 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Danielle Prater followed with 14 and Chloe Smith finished with 10. Kacie Dotson chipped in eight.

Alexandria Jarvis finished with a double-double for the Lady Bobcats (5-13) with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Madilyn Meade tossed in 12.

PIKEVILLE – Betsy Layne built a double-digit lead in the opening half as went on to beat Prestonsburg, 62-51, in the All “A” Classic quarterfinals played at Appalachian Wireless Arena on Saturday.

Katie Kidd and Alexandria Jarvis fired in 14 points each as the Lady Bobcats moved to 5-12. Madilyn Meade followed with 11 and Kenadie Boyette chipped in 10.

Faith Lazar led all scorers for the Lady Blackcats (4-8) with 23 points. Celina Mullins added eight.

PIKEVILLE – Shelby Valley turned up the heat against Martin County and forced the Lady Cardinals into 17 turnovers en route to a 48-26 win in the All “A” Classic quarterfinals played at Appalachian Wireless Arena on Friday.

Alyssa Elswick had 21 points and eight rebounds as the Lady Cats improved to 9-5. Kelsey Owens chipped in nine off the bench.

Kristen Issac paced the Lady Cardinals (8-5) with 13 points and Madison Thompson added seven and 12 rebounds.

PIKEVILLE – Pikeville ran out to a big lead early on and cruised to a 64-42 win over Jenkins the All “A” Classic quarterfinals played at Appalachian Wireless Arena on Friday.

Kirsten Cole-Williams led the Lady Panthers, now 12-3, with a game-high 19 points. Trinity Rowe finished with 11 and Alivia Gearheart netted 10.

Lindsey Rose paced the Lady Cavaliers (4-9) with 17 points and Jerrica Thacker tossed in 14.
