DISTRICT SOCCER ROUNDUP: Lawrence County beat Belfry in finals; P’burg edges Johnson Central girls

Lawrence County overcame a one-goal deficit to rally past Belfry, 3-2, in the 58th District boys’ soccer tournament championship match played at Bob Amos Soccer Complex on Thursday night.

Luke Johnson scored a pair of unassisted goals and Blake Maynard added a third to push the Bulldogs to 8-4 overall.

Goalkeeper Trenton Adkins had four saves as the Pirates took nine shots on goal.

Jasper McCoy scored off an assist from Aiden McCoy to put Belfry, now 4-6-2, ahead 1-0 early. Dalton Stacy added an unassisted goal late in the match.

Goalkeeper Makaden Maynard finished with 13 saves as Lawrence County took 26 shots on goal.

Both teams advance to the 15th Region tournament at Belfry next Monday and Wednesday, joining Prestonsburg and Martin County.

Lawrence County goalie Citori Branham was solid between the pipes in leading the Lady Bulldogs to a 6-0 victory over Pikeville in the girls’ tournament championship match played at Bob Amos Soccer Complex on Thursday night.

Emersyn Elliott had two goals and three assists as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 10-2-1. Shelby Borders added a pair of goals.

Ellie Webb had one goal and two assists while Casey Hovie added an assist.

Pikeville goalkeeper Ryle Theiss finished with 37 saves as the Lady Panthers dropped to 3-10.

Both teams advance to regional play next week.

Prestonsburg and Johnson Central put on a back-and-forth battle in the first meeting this season as the Lady Blackcats escaped with a thrilling 3-2 win in the girls’ tournament championship match played at StoneCrest Soccer Complex on Thursday night.

Lauren Johnson had a pair of goals and Anna Burchett added one and assisted on two others as the defending champions improved to 11-3.

Goalkeeper Alivia Slone had five saves.
