HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Greenup County nips Paintsville; Hornets sweep Blackcats

Paintsville pitcher Colby Fugate and Greenup County starter Carson Wireman were on top of their games in a pitching duel which ended with the Tigers falling, 1-0, in a home game played on Monday night.

Fugate scattered eight hits as the Tigers dropped to 22-6. Wireman allowed just one hit, a double off the bat of Harris Phelps.

Charleston Catholic pushed across the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to edge Man, 6-5, in a game played on Monday night.

Ryan Cozart was the tough-luck loser as the Hillbillies dropped to 10-8. Cozart had three hits of his own, scored and batted in one run.

Preston Blankenship had two hits and scored a pair of runs while Casey Hurley singled in one run and scored. Caleb Vance added three hits and one RBI.

Joey Canterbury held the Miners, now 1-12, hitless to earn the shutout win. Tyler Ooten took the loss.

Ryan Roberts had three hits, including a triple, walked, scored three runs, and drove in five as the Wildcats moved to 10-4. Aiden Slack had three extra base hits and scored four runs while Garrett Williamson singled and walked twice each and crossed the plate four times. He knocked in a pair of runs.

Byron Tackett was tagged with the loss as the Bobcats fell to 3-15.

Matt Dudleson hit a solo home run and scored twice while Brady Hall had two hits and batted in a pair of runs. Tackett singled, scored and added a pair of RBIs.

Chapmanville took charge early on against Tug Valley and the Tigers cruised to a 12-2 win in a game played at Ted Ellis Field on Monday night.

Tyson Thompson held the Panthers (2-7) without a hit. Thompson helped his own cause with three hits, including a double. He scored once and batted in one as the Tigers moved to 7-14.

Brody Dalton added a pair of doubles, scored two runs, and knocked in two while Evan Plumley and Andrew Farley both had a pair of RBIs.

Justin Hall was the losing pitcher.

Magoffin County completed a doubleheader sweep of Prestonsburg by scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to win game two, 6-5, on Monday night.

The Hornets, now 15-8, took the opener 8-5.

Colin Litteral had two singles and knocked home four runs in the nightcap.

Jon Little singled, scored and had a pair of RBIs for the Blackcats, who fell to 16-8. Owen Greene doubled in one run.

Trenton Coleman was the winning pitcher while Kaden Allen was tagged with the loss.

In the opener, Colin Litteral singled and finished with three RBIs. Winning pitcher Lucas Litteral doubled and scored twice.

Wes Salisbury tripled and singled while knocking in one run in the loss. Nic Kidd took the loss.

Ryan Sartin-Slone was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle while driving in three runs. Winning pitcher Mason Kestner added three hits, including  double, and batted in two runs as Johnson Central improved to 17-10.

Josh Slone doubled, singled, and drove in a pair of runs while Keygan Pelfrey and Matt Crum both singled and scored.
