HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Man opens season with shutout win; Panthers make it four straight wins

Man erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to score a 10-0 mercy-rule win over Tolsia in the season opener played at William “Tootie” Carter Field on Monday night.

Casey Hurley doubled, walked twice, scored two runs, and drove in three to back the solid pitching of starter and winner Ryan Cozart.

Jace Adkins doubled in one run and scored while Caleb Vance walked three times, scored a pair of runs and added an RBI. Josh Lambert had two singles and scored.

Pikeville won its fourth straight game as four Panther hurlers combined to toss a one-hit shutout in a 10-0 win at Davis Park on Monday night.

Dylan Thompson was the winner in relief.

Wade Hensley had two hits, including a triple, and scored two runs as the Panthers improved to 4-5. Logan Windle tripled, singled, scored and knocked in one run while Hunter Jones singled, walked, scored, and added an RBI. Blake Birchfield had two hits, scored, and drove in one run.

Aiden Fields had the only hit for Central, now 2-3. Preston Helle took the loss.

Prestonsburg made the most of seven hits as the Blackcats cruised to a 15-0 win over Rose Hill Christian in a home game played at StoneCrest Sports Complex on Monday night.

Braydon Slone had two hits, walked, scored three times, and batted in one run as the Blackcats improved to 5-2. Payton Burke added a pair of hits, scored twice, and drove in two runs. Ryan Meade singled, walked, scored, and added two RBIs.

Nick Kidd and Jon Little each added one hit, scored two runs, and drove in one run to back winning pitcher Kaden Allen.

Magoffin County continued its hot hitting as the Hornets rolled to a 10-1 win over Betsy Layne in a home game played on Monday night.

Ian Prewitt had two hits, one a double, and knocked in three runs as Magoffin County improved to 4-2. Caleb Howard doubled and drove in three runs while scoring once. Ethan Salyer singled, walked and scored three times.

Lucas Litteral was the winning pitcher.

Andrew Kidd doubled and singled for the Bobcats, who were playing for just the second time this season. Losing pitcher Matt Dudleson singled, walked twice and scored the lone run.

Abner Collinsworth hit for the cycle while scoring twice and driving in eight runs as Lawrence County improved to 5-1. Brayden Maynard had two hits and scored three runs while Nick Collinsworth added two hits, scored two runs, and batted in one.

Winning pitcher Will Lafferty walked twice and scored three runs.

Caleb Hager suffered the loss. Brant Potter singled in the lone run for the Jaguars, now 1-7.
