HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Big second half carries Pikeville past Valley

Pikeville overcame a four-point, halftime deficit to rally past 59th District rival Shelby Valley in the second half for a 59-40 win at the T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

The Lady Panthers, now 16-1, outscored the Lady Kats (15-6) by a 38-16 margin following the break.

Kyera Thornsbury, who was ruled eligible to play earlier in the day, tossed in 12 points in her first game as a Lady Panther, along with Trinity Rowe to lead a balanced scoring attack.

Rylee Theiss tossed in 10 while Emma Ratliff added nine and Kylie M. Hall chipped in eight.

Alyssa Elswick paced Valley with 14 points and Cassidy Rowe added 12.

Prestonsburg put together one of its best all-around performances as they cruised to a 71-42 victory over Powell County in a game played at Prestonsburg Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.

Faith Lazar fired in a game-high 29 points as the Lady Blackcats improved to 14-4. Kylie Tackett followed with 11.

Letcher Central overwhelmed Hazard from the opening tip as the Lady Cougars scored a 70-13 win in a road game on Tuesday night.

Loren Boggs finished with 15 points as Central moved to 14.5 Jaylin Whitt added 10 while Tori Holcomb net nine and Keira Couch tallied eight.
