HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Bulldogs roll in opener; Jags bounce Lions

Lawrence County jumped out to a double-digit, first quarter lead against Morgan County and cruised to a 70-34 road win in the season opener played on Monday night.

Cody Maynard fired in a game-high 21 points and Trenton Adkins added 15. Anthony Johnson, Andrew Bloomfield, and Kaden Gillispie added eight each.

The Bulldogs will host Bath County (0-0) on Dec. 2.

Floyd Central erased a five-point halftime deficit and went on to knock off Elliott County, 73-56, in the home opener played on Monday night.

The Jaguars landed four players in double-figure scoring, led by Ronnie Sammons with 16 points. Braden Moore added 15 while Jake Rainey tallied 12 and Tanner Hall added 11. Eric Burke chipped in eight.

Floyd Central will host Magoffin County (0-0) on Dec. 4.

Pikeville landed four players in double-figure scoring as the Panthers went on the road and beat Martin County, 74-60, in the season opener for both teams on Monday night.

Nick Robinson led the way with 22 points while Tate Walters followed with 15. Rylee Samons tallied 13 and Laithan Hall added 11.Lukas Manns chipped in eight.

Martin County’s Brady Dingess poured in a game-high 30 points. Jordan Dalton and Luke Hale tossed in 11 each.

The Panthers will play at Menifee County (0-3) on Dec. 6 while the Cardinals host Russell (0-0) on Dec 2.

Letcher Central fell behind to visiting South Laurel and the Lady Cougars dropped 72-55 outcome in the season opener played at LCCHS Gymnasium on Monday night.

Tori Holcomb paced Central with 14 points while Kaylee Banks added 11. Keira Couch chipped in nine.
