HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Floyd Central escapes BL; Boyd edges Pikeville

Undefeated Floyd Central overcame a late deficit to slip past upset-minded Betsy Layne, 73-69, in a district matchup played at Junior Newsome Arena on Tuesday night.

Grace Martin led the  Lady Jaguars (8-0) with 20 points while Kennedy Harvel finished with 18. Katie Jo Moore scored 14 and Jada Johnson chipped in 10.

Madilyn Meade poured in a game-high 26 points for the Lady Cats, now 2-5. Kim Akers followed with 17. Katie Kidd chipped in eight.

Pikeville and Boyd County battled down to the wire as the Lady Panthers came up short, 57-53, in a game played at T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

Trinity Rowe led all scorers with a game-high 19 points as Pikeville dropped to 6-3. Kenzie Maynard followed with 11 and Kristen Whited tallied eight.

Belfry dominated from the outset and rolled to a 70-27 win over Pike Central in a game played on Tuesday night.

Cushi Fletcher paced the Lady Pirates, now 7-3, with a game-high 25 points. Kyera Thornsbury fired in 18 and Kyra Justice added 11.

Emalie Tackett led the Lady Hawks (2-7) with nine points and  Sarah Justice had eight.
