HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Lady Panthers dominated in winning All A title

Pikeville jumped out to a big first-quarter lead against Martin County and went on to win the girls’ 15th Region All “A” championship, 62-30, in a game played at the Arena on Sunday afternoon.

It was the second straight tournament championship for the Lady Panthers, now 12-4.

Kristen Whited led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points. Leighan Jackson and Rylee Theiss followed with 12 each.

Trinity Rowe finished with 10 points and Kyera Thornsbury added nine.

Laken Williams paced the Lady Cardinals (12-3) with a game-high 14 points. Katie Marcum chipped in eight.

Pikeville turned up the defensive pressure from the very outset as the Lady Panthers rolled past Shelby Valley, 66-21, in the semifinal matchup played on Friday night.

Trinity Rowe fired in a game-high 18 points while Kylie Alvin, Kyera Thornsbury, and Kristen Whited tallied 11 each. 

Kyra Looney led the Lady Kats with six points.
