HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Pikeville advances to All A quarterfinals

The Pikeville Panthers exploded offensively in the second half to pull away and easily beat Knott Central, 82-59, in the boys’ All A Classic tournament opener played at Morton Combs Athletic Complex in Hindman on Tuesday night.

It marked the first tournament win for the Panthers, now 8-7, since beating Murray in the 1991 tournament.

Lukas Manns poured in a game-high 23 points and Alex Rogers added 19. Zac Lockhart followed with 10 and Laithan Hall tallied nine. Nick Robinson had eight.

The Panthers, who played without their leading scorer Rylee Samons, will face either Lexington Christian or Harlan on the road before March 3.

Letcher Central…52

Belfry won its fifth straight game as the Pirates ran past Letcher Central, 70-52, in a game played on Tuesday night.

Bol Kuir had 19 points and 18 rebounds as the Pirates improved to 10-7. He added eight blocks, giving him 80 on the season. DeMajhae Clark followed with 16 points and Tyler Chaffin added 11.

Bodie Bentley paced the Cougars (7-7) with 12 points.

East Ridge pulled away from Phelps in the final eight minutes to earn an 82-70 win in a game played at the Reservation on Tuesday night.

Jon Mills fired in a game-high 26 points and Isaac Woods finished with 20 as the Warriors improved to 8-7. Eli Rose added 12 and Braxton Stanley chipped in nine.

Mason Prater and Jaeshon Nugent paced the Hornets (1-13) with 20 points each and Kenadre Galaurb-Jackson tossed in 17.

Prestonsburg landed five players in double figures as the Blackcats defeated Lawrence County, 82-73, in a game played on Tuesday night.

Kaleb Jarvis poured in 18 points as the Blackcats moved to 6-7. Grant Justice followed with 16 while Ryan Rose added 15. Will Gullett scored 14 and Jon Little tallied 13.

Trenton Adkins led the Bulldogs (7-6) with 25 points and Kaden Gillespie tossed in 18. Cody Maynard finished with 16.

Kaden Robinson led the scoring with 20 points as the Wildcats improved to 10-5. Keian Worrix finished with 13 while Chaz Brown and Zack Johnson added nine apiece.
