Defending 15th region champion Pikeville built a big halftime lead against Letcher Central and the Panthers went on to open the regular season with an 84-63 win at T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium on Monday night.
Rylee Samons poured in a game-high 31 points, leading four players in double-figure scoring.
Eli Johnson tossed in 16 while josh Hughes and Charlie Fitzer added 10 each. Heath Jarrell net nine.
Jayden Huff led the cougars with 14 points and Brody Bogss added 13. Kaden Sdams net 12.
