HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Betsy Layne turns back Fairview for first victory

Betsy Layne used a goal line stand with just over two minutes to play and held on for an 18-12 victory over the Eagles on Friday night.

It was the first win for the Bobcats (1-4) since they knocked off Fairview a year ago on the home turf.

Quarterback Chase Mims ran for one touchdown and passed for two others, including the game winner to Brady Robinson from 22 yards out with just over eight minutes to play.

Mims’ one-yard run gave the Bobcats a 6-0 lead after one quarter. His 60-yard  TD toss to Nicholas Howell gave his team a 12-6 halftime advantage. Mims passed for 195 yards.

Betsy Layne will play at Prestonsburg (3-4) on Oct. 30. Kickoff is 7:30 pm.
