HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Hawks pull away from Hornets in shootout

Pike Central running backs Matt Anderson and Keegan Bentley combined for seven touchdowns in leading the Hawks to a 50-36 win over Phelps at the Hawks Nest on Friday night.

Anderson, who rushed for 265 yards, had TD runs of 1, 29, 30, and 82 yards as Central evened its record at 2-2. Bentley scored on runs of 26, 24, and 11 yards. Bentley finished with 175 yards.

Quarterback Dominick Francis had another huge game for the Hornets, rushing for 222 yards and three touchdowns while passing for 139 yards.

Running back Seth Mayhorn added 105 yards and one score on 11 runs as the Hornets dropped to 1-3. He also caught a touchdown pass.

Both teams are back in action on Oct. 9 as the Hawks visit Lawrence County (1-0) while Phelps welcomes Pikeville (3-1).
