HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Little named BWW Player of the Week

Letcher Central quarterback Jonah Little carried the Cougars on his back to a near road win at Hazard. 

Little rushed 24 times for 249 yards and four touchdowns while passing for two scores and returning an interception back 63 yards for a seventh. 

His effort has earned him the Mountain Top Sports/Buffalo Wild Wings Player of the Week honor. 

He edged out Logan quarterback Jaxon Cogar who passed for 287 yards and four touchdowns, completing 15-of-20 passes. 

Here is this week’s special honorable mention: 

Running back Dre Young led the Belfry rushing attack with 192 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns.   

Paintsville quarterback A.J. James passed for 174 yards and four touchdowns as the Tigers fell to 1-3. He tossed a pair to Jonah Porter while running back Harris Phelps and receiver Austin Allen hauled in one each. Phelps rushed 25 times for 163 yards and a score. 

Lawrence County’s Kaden Gillispie had a big game with two rushing touchdowns, a TD reception and an interception return for another. 

Honorable mention: 

Martin County running back Dawson Mills ran just four times for 107 yards and a score. Brock Messer added 98 yards and a touchdown on four rushing attempts. 

Shelby Valley quarterback Russ Osborne ran for a pair of short, first-half touchdowns. He passed for 256 yards, completing 23-of-31 passes. He rushed 15 times for 48 yards. Wide receiver Jesse Cook had a big game with nine catches for 117 yards. 

Lawrence County running back Dylan Ferguson rushed for 156 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Cody Crum finished with 83 yards and a score on five rushing attempts. Quarterback Talan Pollock had 68 yards passing and rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown. 

Man quarterback Jayden Brumfield passed for 155 yards and two scores as Man improved to 2-1. 

Floyd Central running back Blake Adams ran for 87 yards on 14 carries and hauled in a touchdown pass. 

Johnson Central running back Chase Price carried 16 times for 155 yards and two touchdowns while Zack McCoart finished with 87 yards and a rushing touchdown on 19 attempts. 

Logan receiver Aiden Slack caught nine passes for 138 yards and two scores.  

Tug Valley sophomore quarterback Elijah Fluty passed for 172 yards and two touchdowns. He added 52 yards rushing. 

Belfry placekicker Aiden McCoy booted the game-winning field goal in the Pirates win over Louisville Central.
