HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Second-half resurrection carries Belfry to state title game

Belfry overcame its worst start in 60 years to return to the Class 3A state championship football game.

Running back Isaac Dixon, a candidate for Kentucky’s  Mr. Football award, rushed for 245 yards and four touchdowns as the Pirates cruised to a 48-26 road win over East Carter in Grayson on Friday night.

After starting the season 0-5, the Pirates have now won 8 of 9 and are heading back to the championship game for the ninth time since 2010 and 15th time in school history.

Zayne Hatfield added 155 yards and one touchdown and Dre Young finished with 86 yards and a pair of scores.

The Pirates rushed for 560 yards as a team.

Belfry, 8-6, will face Paducah-Tilghman, also 8-6, at noon on Saturday. The two teams started the season a combined 1-9.
