HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER: P’burg, Lawrence County reach girls’ finals

Prestonsburg and Lawrence County advanced to the 58th District girls’ championship match at Massey Energy Soccer Complex on Wednesday night.

The Lady Blackcats improved to 15-1-1 with a 9-1 win over Pikeville.

Anna Burchett scored six goals and assisted on two other goals. Sophie Stephens added a goal.

Josie Clevenger scored the lone goal for the Lady Panthers (11-9-2) off an assist from Livie Thacker. Goalkeeper Larren Collins finished with 22 saves.

The Lady Bulldogs (10-6) built a 3-1 halftime lead and held on in the second half to edge Belfry, 3-2.

Leandra Curnutte scored two goals and Maggie Johnson added one. All three were unassisted.

Belfry’s Myra Bevins net both goals for the Lady Pirates, who ended the year at 10-10.

Goalkeeper Jazzy Cline had five saves, along with LC’s Abby Maynard.

Lawrence County advanced to the 58th District tournament boys’ championship match with an 8-0 win over Pikeville at Massey energy Soccer Complex on Tuesday night.

Blake Maynard finished with four goals as the Bulldogs improved to 9-4-2. Sam LeFever followed with two goals and two assists while Sergio Caballero-Garcia net one goal and assisted on three others.

Andrew Vinson scored one goal.

Pikeville goalie Keyton Looney stopped 21 shots as the Panthers ended the season at 3-12.

Belfry………………0

Prestonsburg’s Bryan Amador scored the only goal in the 52nd minute and the Blackcats held on to beat Belfry, 1-0, to advance to the championship match at Massey Energy Soccer Complex on Tuesday night.

Belfry goalkeeper finished with 14 saves as Prestonsburg, now 14-6-1, had 20 shots. The Pirates season ended at 12-9.

Johnson Central captured the 57th District tournament boys;’ championship with a 6-0 win over Paintsville in a match played at Jim Matney Memorial Field on Monday night.

Sawyer Crum knocked home four goals as the Golden Eagles moved to 12-7-1. Drew Conley and Jarend Zimbleman added one goal each.

Goalkeeper Tate Cox stopped seven shots and recorded the shutout. Shawn Arms assisted on four goals.

Paintsville goalkeeper had 11 saves. The Tigers finished 0-9.

Letcher Central……1

Hazard’s Landon Hughes scored a pair of goals as the Bulldogs eliminated Letcher Central, 2-1, in the 53rd District tournament boys’ semifinals played at Daniel Field on Monday night.

The Cougars, who saw their season end at 4-12-2, managed a lone goal from Jonah Fitch. Goalkeeper Nate Cook finished with 30 saves.

Johnson Central punched its ticket to the 57th District tournament girls’ championship match with a 5-1 win over Paintsville in a match played at Jim Matney Memorial Field on Monday night.

Lakin Bentley scored two goals as the Lady Eagles improved to 11-5. Alana Cheek, Kiersten Sagraves, and Makaylie Walker added one goal each.

Brooklyn Ousley and Walker had two assists each.

Paintsville’s Camryn Helton had the lone goal for the Lady Tigers, who finished the season 4-13-2. Goalkeeper Maggie Music had 10 saves and Emma Preece stopped five shots.

Belfry made quick work of Shelby Valley as the Lady Pirates advanced with a 12-0 mercy rule win in a match played at Massey Energy Soccer Complex on Monday night.

Myra Bevins had four goals as the Lady Pirates moved to 10-9. Bailey McCoy followed with three goals while Makenna Justice and Zoey Caudill added two each. Jazzy Cline added one.

Shelby Valley goalkeeper Izabella Branham had six saves as the Lady Kats ended the season 0-12.

Pikeville standout Rylee Theiss scored six goals as the Lady Panthers advanced to the 58th District tournament girls’ semifinals with a 10-0 win over Pike Central at Massey Energy Soccer Complex on Monday night.

Theiss set a single season school record for goals in a season.

Leighan Jackson added two goals and two assists. Hannah Kidd and Elle Johns scored a goal each.

Pike Central goalkeeper Hollie Bryant had 22 saves as the Lady Hawks season ends at 2-12.
