HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Ford sets new strikeout mark in loss to Grant County

Pikeville ace pitcher Emily Ford struck out 17 batters to set a record, but the Lady Panthers fell to Grant County, 4-0, in the 18th annual Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament on Saturday night.

Ford had set a record of 16 in the season opener

Olivia Hall and Ginna Jones each had one single each for the Lady Panthers, who dropped to 12-5.

Kelcie Adams added three singles, scored one run, and drove in another as Pikeville improved to 12-4. Shana Ray had two hits and scored while Ginna Jones and Isabelle Rose each singled and knocked in one run.

Ginna Jones followed with two hits, including a double, scored two runs and added an RBI. Cassidy Slater had two singles and scored runs.

Molly Coleman tripled, scored, and batted in two runs as Pikeville moved to 10-4. Winning pitcher Emily Ford had three hits, including a double, and drove in one run while Olivia Hall singled in another and scored twice.

Holly Handshoe took the loss for Magoffin County. Jaylynn Lafferty had the only hit.
