HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Paintsville wins battle of unbeatens

Paintsville’s defense slowed down West Carter’s pounding ground game and the Tigers pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the Comets, 34-12, in a game played at Memorial Field on Saturday night.

The Tigers moved to 5-0 while West Carter fell to 5-1.

Paintsville held a 21-12 lead in the fourth quarter with West Carter driving deep into Tigers territory when A.J. James pick off Comet quarterback Orry Perry to put the game out of reach.

Tiger signal-caller Jake Hyden finished with 99 yards rushing and two scores, both coming in the fourth quarter. He also passed for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Paintsville will play at Raceland (3-3) on Oct. 23. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
