HS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Bobcats rally past Hawks; Panthers roll

BUCKLEYS CREEK – Betsy Layne rallied in the second half from an early deficit to slip past Pike Central, 57-54, in a game played at the Hawks Nest on Monday night.

Jordan Frazier led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points as the Bobcats improved to11-7. Chase Mims followed with 12 points while Brady Robinson and Andrew Kidd added 10 each.

Pike Central’s Jacob Young led all scorers with 25 points and Logan Wood finished with 13.

SALYERSVILLE – Pikeville steadily pulled away from Magoffin County to earn a 68-56 victory in a game played at T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium on Monday night.

Grayson Harris led the Panthers, now 11-8, with 19 points while Seth Pugh followed with 12. Conner Byers and Nick Robinson chipped in 10 each.

Aden Barnett paced the Hornets (11-8) with 19 points while Isaiah Salyer finished with 16 and Grayson Whitaker tossed in 14.

INEZ – Martin County completed a regular-season sweep of Johnson Central as the Cardinals scored a 67-57 victory over the Golden Eagles on the strength of a strong fourth quarter on Monday night.

Trey James fired in 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to finish with a double-double as the Cardinals moved to 9-11. Ethan Smith-Mills paced Martin County with 23 points while Braxton Maynard tallied 11.

Isaiah May led Johnson Central (13-8) with 23 points. Cory VanHoose and John King added 12 apiece.

Kelsi Brinager stripped the nets for a game-high 33 points and 15 rebounds as Central moved to 10-10. Chloe Neece and Bailey Birchfield followed with nine each.

Rayanna Slone led the Lady Warriors (7-12) with 14 points and Haley Parks fired in 11. Sarah Tackett had 14 rebounds.
