HS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Keeton, Fugate power Tigers past Pirates

GOODY – Paintsville took control early in the game and cruised to an 83-68 victory over Belfry on Tuesday night.

Nick Keeton scored 24 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as the Tigers improved to 12-10. Paintsville finished the game with 50 rebounds. Colby Fugate scored 25 points and Braxton Tharp tossed in 11.

Tyler Chaffin fired in 22 points for Belfry, which dropped to 7-11. Sal Dean hit for 14 and Jaxson Thompson added 12.

LANGLEY – Betsy Layne was able to pull away from Floyd Central in the second half to score an 80-66 district win in a game played on Tuesday night.

The Bobcats, now 14-7, landed four players in double-figure scoring as Lukas Manns led the way with 22 points. Andrew Kidd and Brady Robinson followed with 17 each and Jordan Frazier tallied 11.

William Slone paced the Jaguars (4-17) with a game-high 28 points. Ronnie Sammons tossed in 14.

BUCKLEYS CREEK – Shelby Valley dominated from start to finish as the Wildcats cruised past Pike County Central, 68-37, in a game played at the Hawks Nest on Tuesday night.

Cody Potter finished with 28 points and 13 rebounds as the Wildcats improved to 18-5. Eli Sykes followed with 15 while Keian Worrix had 11 points and dished out seven assists.

Jacob Young paced the Hawks (6-17) with 13 points while Logan Wood and Justin Adkins added 10 each.

NEWTOWN – Tug Valley build a double-digit lead and held on to knock off Mingo Central, 57-47, in a game played on Miner Mountain Tuesday night.

Ian Reed fired in 20 points and Caleb May added 19 as the Panthers (7-10) avenged an earlier loss to the Miners (10-6) at home. Easton Davis chipped in nine.

Devin Hatfield paced the Miners with 16 points and Drew Hatfield followed with 14.
