HS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Valley edges JC in OT; Jags top Pirates

PAINTSVILLE – Shelby Valley let a fourth quarter lead slip away but recovered in overtime to score a thrilling 88-87 win over Johnson Central in a game played on Thursday night.

Keian Worrix had his biggest game all season with 27 points, five assists and two steals as the Wildcats moved to 23-6 to close out the regular season. Kaden Robinson followed with 20 and Cody Potter knocked in 14 and grabbed 13 boards for a double-double. He also handed out four assists.

Johnson Central’s Isaiah May led all scorers with 40 points as the Golden Eagles dropped to 16-11. John King tallied 14 and Cory VanHoose dropped in 10.

The two teams combined to shoot 86 free throws.

LANGLEY – Floyd Central built a comfortable halftime lead and cruised to an 83-69 win over Belfry in a game played on Thursday night.

William Slone poured in a game-high 28 points to lead the Jaguars, now 7-21. Hayden Hall finished with 16 to lead three other players in double figure scoring. Braden Moore hit for 13 and Marcus Thacker tallied 10. Ronnie Sammons chipped in nine.

Sal Dean and Tyler Chaffin scored 12 apiece to lead the Pirates, who dropped to 9-16. Jaxson Thompson followed with 11 and Austin Hager chipped in nine.

Brady Robinson poured in a game-high 23 points in his return to lead the Bobcats, now 17-10. Jordan Frazier finished with 20 and Chase Mims tallied 14. Andrew Kidd chipped in nine.

Eli Rose fired in 21 points to lead the Warriors, now 10-15. Jon Mills scored 13 while Cameron Hess added 11. Hunter Damron tallied nine.

INEZ – Martin County rallied from a 10-point, halftime deficit to slip past Pikeville, 50-49, in the regular-season finale played on Thursday night.

Brady Dingess tossed in 15 points and Trey James added 13 as the Cardinals improved to 17-12. It was their eighth straight win. James also became the state’s all-time block leader in the game. He now has 717.

Ethan Smith-Mills and Braxton Maynard added nine points each.

Nick Robinson led the Panthers, now 14-11, with 15 points while Rylee Samons tossed in 12. John Flanery tallied nine.
