The Pikeville Panthers finished Week 3 of the season with an overall record of three losses and, unusual for the team, nothing in the win column. However, this past Friday they changed that in a close fought campaign with the Raceland Rams.
The game, a rematch of the Class A state title game, started slow for scoring, showcasing both the Panthers’ and the Rams’ tough defenses.
That trend would continue until Isaac Duty, who struggled in the game rushing out of the pocket for a loss of 14 yards in total, connected with Mikey Hager who took the reception to the endzone to break the scoring stalemate.
The Panthers ended with 112 yards rushing and 178 yards passing, with their two touchdowns a result of two catches, with Bradyn Hall tacking on the second following Hager’s second quarter opening TD reception.
Pikeville’s defense, shining early in the contest, stacked up five sacks over the course of the game.
When the dust settled, the Panthers put their first win of the season in the books with the final score 16-13.
Tomorrow the Panthers will prepare to meet the Belfry Pirates at home.
