Paintsville held off a fourth-quarter rally by Martin County to score a 40-37 win in the girls’ 57th District tournament opening round game played at Magoffin County on Monday night.
Chloe Hannah tossed in 13 points and Emilea Preece added 12 as the Lady Tigers (14-9) advanced to the championship game against Johnson Central (19-4) on March 18. Ava Hyden chipped in eight.
Katie Marcum led all scorers for the Lady Cardinals, who season ended at 13-11. Lynndsey Cassell followed with 12.
