59TH DISTRICT TOURNAMENT: Lady Panthers, Valley Cats advance to finals

JENKINS – Defending 15th Region champion Pikeville used a second quarter run to pull away and beat Jenkins, 84-66, in the opening round of the girls’ 59th District Tournament played at Jenkins High School on Monday night.

Kirsten Cole-Williamson finished with a double-double, scoring 28 points and pulling down 21 rebounds as the Lady Panthers improved to 23-6 and advanced to the championship game as well as secure a spot in next week’s regional tournament in Pikeville.

Trinity Rowe had 11 points and dished out 10 assists for a double-double. Kelsey Jo Tackett had 11 points and became the school’s all-time assist lead with 609. Alivia Gearheart and Lexi Wilkerson added 11 points each.

Jerrica Thacker stripped the nets for a game-high 30 points and Lindsey Rose followed with 14 as Jenkins season ends at 7-23. Kristin Thacker tossed in 11 points.

JENKINS – Top-seeded Shelby Valley took charge early on against Jenkins and rolled to an 86-33 win in the opening round of the boys’ 59th District Tournament played on Monday night.

Cody Potter poured in 25 points and Aaron Bates added 16 as the Wildcats (24-6) advance to the championship game and secured a spot in next week’s 15th Region Tournament in Pikeville.

Kaden Robinson followed with 14 points and Chaz Brown chipped in nine.

Payton Rose led the Cavaliers (1-23) with 14 points. Anthony Newman tossed in seven.
