Pikeville snapped a scoreless tie with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Panthers went on to beat the Wildcats, 4-0, in the 59th District tournament championship played at Davis Park on Tuesday night.
It was the third straight title and the 44th in program history.
Winning pitcher Isaac Duty and reliever Dylan Thompson combined to shutout Valley. Duty pitched five innings, striking out 11 batters, walking three while scattering two hits. Thompson fanned three and allowed one walk.
Bradyn Hall had two hits, walked, scored one run, and drove in one as Pikeville improved to 21-11. Wade Hensley doubled in one run while Thompson doubled in a run.
Sam Wright added a RBI sacrifice fly to cap the scoring. Jackson Hall singled and scored twice.
Samuel Brown and Hunter Adkins had one hit each in the loss as the Wildcats dropped to 15-16.
Lincoln Taylor was the staring pitcher and loser for the Wildcats.
Both teams advance to the 15th Region tournament.
