JENKINS – Pikeville’s Rylee Samons hit a short jumper in the paint in the game’s final seconds to lift the Panthers to a stunning 51-50 win over bitter-rival Shelby Valley in the 59th District Tournament boys’ championship game played at Jenkins High School on Thursday night.
Samons finished with a game-high 23 points as the Panthers moved to 16-11 overall and advanced to the 15th Region Tournament as the district’s top seed. Nick Robinson followed with 10 points and John Flanery chipped in nine.
The Wildcats, now 24-7 and a second seed in the regional tournament, was led by Cody Potter’s 20 points. Eli Sykes tallied 13 and Keian Worrix added 10.
