HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Valley drops first-ever meeting with Hazard

Shelby Valley outgained Hazard in total yards but the Bulldogs won on the scoreboard, beating the Wildcats, 48-26, in the first meeting on the gridiron at Daniel Field on Friday night.

The Wildcats closed out the regular season 5-5 and saw their two-game winning streak snapped.

Quarterback Russ Osborne passed for 193 yards and one touchdown, hauled in by Brady Bentley. He had three catches for 80 yards.

Running backs Jayden Newsome and Ethan Bentley ran for a touchdown each. Newsome totaled 122 yards on 20 carries and Bentley added 55 yards on 16 attempts. Osborne rushed for a touchdown.

Shelby Valley will play Martin County (7-4) in the Class 2A playoffs at The Rock on Nov. 5. Kickoff is set for 7 pm.
