HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Martin County punches ticket to finals; Bobcats top Jags

Martin County advanced to the 57th District Tournament championship game with a 76-58 win over Magoffin County in a matchup played at Johnson Central’s Eagle Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.

Senior guard Brady Dingess fired in 30 points, dished out five assists and had four steals as the Cardinals, now 22-7, moved into Friday night’s title game against Paintsville.

Luke Hale followed with 17 points while Jordan Dalton and Peyton Davis chipped in nine each.

Aden Barnett shared game-high scoring honors with Dingess, netting 30 points in the loss. Walker Russell tossed in 13.

Magoffin County’s season ends at 12-16.

Betsy Layne built a commanding halftime lead against Floyd Central and cruised into the 58th District Tournament championship game with a 59-37 win on Wednesday night.

Jordan Frazier led all scorers with 18 points and, also reached 2,000 for his career as the Bobcats improved to 21-7. Andrew Kidd and Chase Mims added nine apiece.

Ronnie Sammons finished with 13 for the Jaguars, whose season ended at 13-15. Chris Spriggs added 10.

Betsy Layne will face Lawrence County in the title game at Floyd Central on Friday night.

The Lawrence County Lady Bulldogs are back in the 58th District Tournament finals following an impressive 81-50 win over Prestonsburg in a game played on Wednesday night.

Kensley Feltner poured in a game-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 24-7. Leandra Curnutte tallied 18 points while Sophie Adkins tossed in 13 and Kaison Ward added 11.

Faith Lazar paced the Lady Blackcats (21-9) with 22 points. Celina Mullins had nine.

Lawrence County and Floyd Central will play in the title game at Floyd Central tonight.
