Pikeville winning pitcher Emily Ford raced home from third base on a passed ball with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to score the game’s only run as the Lady Panthers edge 59th District rival Shelby Valley, 1-0, in the tournament championship game played at Jenkins Park on Wednesday night.
It marked the third time this season the outcome was decided by a single run.
Ford struck out eight, walked one, and scattered three hits as Pikeville improved to 21-12.
Kelcie Adams, Cassidy Slater, Izzy Rose, Shana Ray, and Hannah Akers each singled.
Valley starting pitcher Emily Adkins was solid as well. She struck out eight, walked two and allowed five hits as the Bat Kats dropped to 23-15.
Kyra Looney, Josie Adkins, and Emily Adkins singled.
Both teams now advance to the 15th Region tournament next week at Belfry.
