The matchup between Pikeville and Belfry was all Panthers as the defending Class 1A champions cruised to a 48-13 win before a capacity crowd at Hillard Howard Field on Friday night
Pikeville running back Blake Birchfield had four touchdowns, including three rushing in the opening half as the Panthers built a 28-7 lead. He finished with 173 yards on 26 carries.
Quarterback Isaac Duty tossed a sweep pass to Brendan Anthony who raced 74 yards and then tossed a second to Wade Hensley, a 40-yard scoring strike. Duty completed nine of 11 passes for 195 yards.
Belfry’s lone scores came on runs by Caden Woolum and Dre Young. Woolum finished with 94 yards on seven rushes.
Both teams will be back in action on Friday night as Belfry (2-3) travels to Magoffin County (2-3) and Pikeville (2-2) will host Lexington Christian (2-3). Both games will kick off at 7:30 pm.
