The Martin County Lady Cardinals girls’ basketball team have taken home the 15 Region All A title and will now move on to Owensboro for the All A state tournament.
This is head coach Robin Newsome’s eighth regional crown as Martin County High School’s head coach.
Newsome’s daughter, Boo Newsome, who has played for her mom throughout high school, said Tuesday the win was a shining moment in her high school athletics career.
The Cardinals defeated the Betsy Layne lady Bobcats to claim the champion at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on January 16 by a final tally of 41-40. Freshman Maci Maynard earned the Community Trust Player of the Game finishing with 18 points while point guard Brooke Marcum chipped in 13 points in the win.
A community sendoff will take place Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the high school as the Cardinals take to the road for the All A state tournament.
