Officials say cancelling or postponing high-contract sports ‘not so’
The back-and-forth struggle about the beginning of fall sports in Kentucky is being passed around like a hot potato.
Kentucky Sports Radio host Matt Jones twitted Thursday he had spoken with Kentucky Department of Education Commissioner Kevin Brown who indicated cancelling or postponing high school football season was not on the agenda.
The education department has been flooded with calls, some threating, according to reports, about delaying the start of fall sports.
Friday’s meeting is set to begin at 11 a.m.
Here is the agenda for the conference:
Discussion of the KHSAA Board of Control’s Aug. 20 decision to begin high school interscholastic sports – Commissioner Julian Tackett.
Discussion of district concerns about the safety of high contact fall sports – local superintendents.
Discussion of the Kentucky Department for Public Health Covid-19 guidance and recommendations – Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack.
Discussion and possible action to authorize the KDE to develop written communication to be issued to the KHSAA BOC by KBE Chair Young on behalf of the KBE urging additional consideration of alternative options for high contact fall sports – KBE members.
