RICHMOND – Shelby Valley fell behind by 19 points early in the third period and battle their way back into the game before falling 37-31 in the All “A” Classic state tournament quarterfinal round matchup with Walton-Verona at McBrayer Arena on Friday afternoon.
Alyssa Newsom’s three-point basket with 2:09 left pulled Valley, now 13-6, to within 35-31. It would be the Lady Cats final points of the game. She led the way with 15 points while Alyssa Elswick and Tori Hampton added six each.
Valley made good on just 11 of 40 field goals, including 3 of 17 from three-point range.
