BREAKING NEWS: New guidelines will allow high school bands to perform

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice announced Tuesday the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (SSAC) and the state’s medical experts have developed guidelines for marching bands to be able to perform across the state.

“As a coach and someone who is in our schools all the time, I appreciate how much our extracurricular activities, including our marching bands, mean to our students, parents, and communities”

The SSAC had announced Monday high school marching and pep bands will not be allowed to participate in any extracurricular activities this fall.

Gov. Justice directed the state’s medical experts to work with the SSAC and Department of Education to go back to the drawing board and come up with a solution.

“Our medical experts evaluated guidelines from the National Federation of High School Sports, and the West Virginia Bandmasters Association and put a plan together that keeps our band members socially distanced and as safe as possible, while allowing them to perform in the stadium on game days and allowing their families to watch their performances.
