PIKEVILLE – University of Pikeville saw an eight-point, halftime lead slip away in the second half as University of Cumberlands rallied for an 85-79 win over the Bears on Senior Day at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Saturday.
The Bears, now 19-9 overall and 6-9 in Mid-South Conference games, was led by Luke Layhew’s 22 points and 12 boards for a double-double. DeAndre Barton followed with 21 points while Jordan Perry added 14 and Xaviar Gaona chipped in 11.
The Bears will host Bluefield (Va.) College in a non-conference game Tuesday night.

PIKEVILLE – University of Pikeville used a solid second-half performance to turn back the University of the Cumberlands, 72-66, on Senior Day at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Saturday.
Mia Greatrex finished with 22 points and eight boards as the Bears moved to 16-13 overall and 6-8 in league play.
A.J. Reed followed with 14 points while Elisabeth Latham chipped in eight.
UPIKE closes out the regular season at Shawnee State University on Saturday.
