PIKEVILLE – The University of Pikeville men’s basketball Bears fell behind in the opening half to bitter-rival Georgetown College and came up short, 76-63, in a Mid-South Conference showdown played at the UPIKE Gymnasium on Saturday.
Luke Layhew fired in 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double as the Bears dropped to 16-7 overall and 3-7 in league play. Jordan Perry added 13 points and J.J. Ramey chipped in nine.
UPIKE will return to action against Lindsey Wilson College at home on Thursday night. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.

PIKEVILLE – Another third quarter came back to haunt the University of Pikeville women’s basketball Bears as Georgetown took the lead away at the outset of the second half and went on to score an 83-72 win in a game played at the UPIKE Gymnasium on Saturday.
Kayla Mullins poured in 21 points and Brianna Burbridge added 13 as the Bears fell to 14-10 overall and 4-6 in league play. Mary Englert added 10.
UPIKE will host Lindsey Wilson College on Thursday night at the Gym. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
