COLLEGE BASKETBALL: UPIKE sweeps Shawnee State

The University of Pikeville Bears held off a furious second half rally from Shawnee State University to escape with a 73-70 win at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Tuesday night.

UPIKE improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Mid-South conference play.

Teddy Parham Jr. Led the Bears with a game-high 22 points while Devin Collins followed with 17 and Korbin Spencer net 15.

The Bears will travel to Kingsport, Tenn. to face Trinity International of Illinois on Friday night. They will face Washington Adventist University on Saturday. Both games are set for 7:45 pm.

UPIKE used a big second half to defeat Shawnee State University, 79-68, in a women’s game played at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Tuesday night.

The Bears moved to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in league games.

Mary Englert led four players in double figure scoring with 20 points. Allie Slone tallied 18 and Morgan Stamper followed with 16. Katie Collopy tossed in 15.

UPIKE will host Midway College at the Arena on Saturday. Game time is 4 pm.
