In one of the most highly anticipated college football seasons in University of Kentucky history, the Wildcats set their sights on Miami, Ohio, coming to Kroger Field to kick off the season on Saturday night.
Kentucky will look to win its 17th straight game against non-conference opponents.
“Really looking forward to getting started here in week one. It has been a long offseason as you know. We started this year just a few days early. It is always a long camp, and we are anxious to get started. We are really looking forward to the challenge and playing Miami,” UK coach Mark Stoops said.
The Wildcats are coming off a 10-3 season one year ago, including a fourth straight bowl win.
Kentucky is looking to make it four straight wins over the Redhawks, and first in the series since a 41-7 win back in 2013. It was Coach Mark Stoops’ first win as head man of the Wildcats.
“I did not even really realize that until you told me. It does seem like a long time ago. But, grateful. You know, year 10, that was a long time ago. A much different team. Just try to stay in the moment, stay in our normal routine, and get the team ready to play,” Stoops added.
It marks the first time since 2016 the season opener will be played under the lights and marks the first time in program history the Wildcats are ranked in the Top 20 in both the Associated Press and Coaches polls.
The recent success on the gridiron has put excitement in the fan base.
“I really appreciate the fan base, and the season tickets are up, and the student tickets are sold out. We are expecting big crowds and we appreciate that. You always hear me talk about that. I always appreciate it. I know the sacrifice they make. I can promise you that our team has worked exceptionally hard to go play well,” Stoops concluded.
Game time is 7 pm.
