Marshall University and Eastern Kentucky have agreed to meet up in Huntington on Sept. 5 in the college football opener for both programs, it was announced Tuesday.
It will be the first of two games for the Colonels in the Mountain State. EKU will play at West Virginia on Sept. 12.
The game renews an old rivalry between the teams, with Marshall leading the series 11-8-1. Marshall and Eastern Kentucky first met on the gridiron in 1926 and played each season from 1985 through 1992 when Marshall was in the Football Championship Subdivision.
It will be the second meeting in the past three seasons. The Thundering Herd won 32-16 in 2018 at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
Marshall, which finished 8-5 one year ago, lost to Central Florida in the Bad Boys Mowers Gasparilla Bowl.
The Colonels finished 7-5 in 2019.
