COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Bears split doubleheader with WVU-Tech

PIKEVILLE – University of Pikeville pitcher Hannah Skaggs was solid on the mound, pitching the Bears to a 2-1 victory over WVU-Tech to earn a doubleheader split at Paul Butcher Field on Thursday.

She scattered five hits and allowed just one run while striking out 12 batters.

Megan Claypoole blasted a home run to snap a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning. Alysha Bolling’s RBI groundout pushed UPIKE up 2-0.

PIKEVILLE – University of Pikeville took an early lead against WVU-Tech, but the visiting Bears rallied for a 2-1 win in the nightcap played at Paul Butcher Field on Thursday.

Alysha Bolling belted an inside-the-park home run to open the scoring. The Bears were held scoreless the remainder of the game.

Mackenzie Pawlak tripled in the loss. Megan Claypoole took the loss.

UPIKE will host Rochester University at 11 a.m. on Saturday and then face Alice Lloyd College at 3 p.m.
