HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Pirates outslug Eagles; Bulldogs cruise at home

Belfry held on down the stretch to beat Johnson Central, 11-9, in a game played at Eagle Field on Friday night.

Noah Brown doubled twice and drove in six runs as the Pirates moved to 4-2. Jonah Adkins singled three times and added a pair of RBIs.

Ashton Deskins and Jake Varney hit solo home runs while Devin Jude singled twice, walked, and scored two runs.

Johnson Central, now 2-5, managed only three hits, one of those was a home run off the bat of losing pitcher Connor Lemaster. He drove in three runs.

Mason Baldwin singled, walked, scored, and added an RBI while Matt Crum singled, walked and scored both times. Gavin Crum scored twice.

Paintsville saw an early lead slip away as Greenup County came from behind to beat the Tigers, 6-2, in a game played on Friday night.

The Tigers, now 5-2, managed two hits each from Ashton Miller and Grayson Peters. Both drove in one run. Harris Phelps had three hits and scored.

Connor Fugate was tagged with the loss.

Nicholas Ritchie had two singles and drove in four runs while Carter Howard singled, walked, scored, and batted in three.

Dawson Rodriquez had three hits, including a double, and added an RBI. Austin Johnson and Caleb Morgan both scored twice and added an RBI each.

East Ridge’s Dylan Burdine had a pair of doubles, including a clutch hit to score the winning run in the top of the seventh inning as the Warriors edged Betsy Layne, 4-3, in a road game on Friday night.

Burdine accounted for three RBIs as East Ridge won for the first time in three games. Winning pitcher Landon Robinson and Garret Jones each singled and scored.

Byron Tackett singled in two runs in the loss. Wilson Hsu, losing pitcher Brady Robinson and Brady Hall each singled and scored.

Lawrence County erupted for six runs in the second inning and went on to beat Floyd Central, 11-1, in a game played on the home turf on Friday night.

Abner Collinsworth had two hits, including a home run, scored twice and batted in two runs as the Bulldogs moved to 5-1. Blue Fletcher added two hits, scored two runs an added an RBI.

Brayden Maynard singled twice and batted in a pair of runs while Will Lafferty singled, walked, and scored twice. Luke Patton added two hits and scored two runs while driving in one.

Jake Derifield was the winning pitcher.

Cole Lafferty had an RBI single in the loss while Jacob Bentley singled and scored. Max Martin had two hits.
