HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Thompson slugs Pikeville past Prestonsburg in Leadoff Classic

Pikeville High’s Dylan Thompson was a double shy of hitting for the cycle as the Panthers opened the 2022 baseball season with an 8-5 victory over Prestonsburg in the 15th Region Leadoff Classic played at Davis Park on Monday night.

Thompson scored three runs and drove in a pair. Braydn Hall had three singles and batted in two runs while Noah Jarrell singled twice, scored two runs and drove in one.

Sam Wright added two hits and had a pair of RBIs and Logan Windle collected three hits, including a double, and scored.

Brady Clark struck out nine batters in five innings of work to earn the win.

Losing pitcher Payton Burke led the Blackcats with three hits, including a double, scored two runs and batted in one.

Nic Kidd doubled, singled, and knocked in three runs. Matt Welch added two hits, one a double, and scored a pair of runs.

Pikeville will host Paintsville on Tuesday. First pitch is 5:30 pm
