HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Blackcats top Hornets; Pirates bounce Bobcats

Prestonsburg took an early lead and went on to beat Phelps, 59-44, in a game played at the McCoy Athletic Complex on Thursday night.

Ryan Rose finished with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 16 rebounds as the Blackcats moved to 8-11. Grant Justice added 13 points and dished out 11 assists to add a double-double. Will Gullett chipped in nine points.

Mason Prater scored 16 to lead the Hornets, now 3-15.Jaylen Wells and Keandra Galaurb-Jackson tossed in 10 apiece.

Belfry pulled away from Betsy Layne in the final period to earn a 78-64 win in a game played at Junior Newsome Arena on Thursday night.

DeMahjae Clark fired in 21 points for the Pirates, now 12-8. Sal Dean followed with 20. Ben McNamee tossed in 13 while Bol Kuir net 11 and Steven Banks chipped in 10.

Betsy Layne’s Jordan Frazier had a game-high 26 points as the Bobcats dropped to 9-7. Brady Robinson tallied 19.
