HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Jaguars roll past Hornets: Lady Cougars win

Floyd Central used a balanced scoring attack to pull away and beat Phelps,92-61, in a game played at the McCoy Athletic Center on Monday night.

Tanner Hall fired in 18 points and Ronnie Sammons followed with 15 as the Jaguars improved to 3-0. Eric Burke and Brody Buck added nine points each.

Landon Dotson scored 17 for the Hornets in their season opener. Mason Prater and Hayden Mounts finished with 12 each.

Letcher Central built a big lead early on and cruised to a 61-34 victory over Johnson Central at home on Monday night.

Kaylee Banks paced three Lady Cougars (3-1) in double figures with 17 points. Kiera Couch tossed in 14 and Loren Boggs net 10.

Clara Blair had eight in the loss for the Lady Eagles.

Shelby Valley took charge in the second quarter and the Lady Kats advanced in the winner’s bracket of the Mountain Classic, defeating Leslie County, 58-40, at Knott Central on Monday night.

Senior standout Cassidy Rowe poured in 20 points as Valley moved to 3-0. Alyssa Elswick added 13 and Kyra Looney scored 10. Jasmine Meade chipped in eight.
