HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: KHSAA says no jump ball this hoop season

Home court advantage has been given after the Kentucky High School Athletic Association released competition restrictions for the 2020-21 high school basketball season.

Instead of the traditional jump ball to begin play, the home team will get to call a coin flip.

The rule will be in play through regulation. If the game goes into overtime the visiting team will then have the coin flip option.

Here is a breakdown of the officiating rules adopted:

Eliminate the jump ball and award the choice of first possession of the ball to the team winning a coin toss, called by the home team.

The alternating possession arrow will then reset by rule when the initial throw-in is complete.

To start an overtime period, use a coin toss, called by the visiting team, to determine which team is awarded the ball.

Subsequent overtime periods will be started with possession by the team based on the alternating possession arrow.
