HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Lady Cards nip Russell in OT; East Ridge boys top Phelps

Martin County’s Lynndsey Cassell hit a pair of free throws with two seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game and the Lady Cardinals went on to beat Russell, 75-73, in overtime at the MCHS Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

Katie Marcum finished with a game-high 28 points as the Lady Cardinals improved to 5-2. Laken Williams tallied 21 and Lakyn Porter net 14.

Shelby Valley snapped a two-game losing streak as the Lady Kats cruised past Pike County Central, 72-29, in a game played at the Hawks Nest on Wednesday night.

The Lady Kats, now 5-2 built a 45-15 halftime lead and never looked back in dropping the Lady Hawks to 0-6.

Alysa Elswick finished with 19 points to lead all scorers while Kyra Looney followed with 15. Kentucky commit Cassidy Rowe added 12.

Sarah Justice scored seven to lead Central.
